Eurotunnel is a great way of crossing the Channel. Travel from Folkestone to Calais in just 35 minutes and direct motorway access both sides of the channel. With trains powered by electricity, Eurotunnel is the most environmentally friendly way to cross the channel with your vehicle. This is a really exciting way to travel – totally different from crossing the Channel by sea, its smooth, quick and easy. Inside the shuttle you can get out of the car, take a walk and it is brightly lit throughout the journey. If you have travelled on Eurotunnel before you will already know the advantages but we would love families who have not yet experienced this great way to travel to France to try it for their next holiday as well.
Eurotunnel operate24 hours a day, 365 days a year with daily crossings from FOLKESTONE to CALAIS. Travelling to France couldn't be easier - with up to four shuttle departures an hour at peak times, you'll be sure to find a time that suits you!
Check-In!
Check in at least 30 minutes before your booked departure time, (and no more than 2 hours before). This allows for security checks at the French and British frontier controls, and time to get into the boarding lanes. You will need yourbooking reference number and (if you have booked your own Eurotunnel crossing, the credit/debit cardused to make the booking. If you would like a quick coffee before you go or take advantage of the tax free prices in our UK and French Terminal buildings, don't forget to give yourself enough time. Self Check-In - How does it work?
Providing you have made a booking in advance of travel, through Matthews Holidays, proceed to the Self Check-In lanes which are signposted and look out for the kiosks situated before the main booths. Simply key-in the eight digit booking reference number and follow the instructions displayed on the touch screen to obtain your hanger. Once your hanger is printed, you can proceed to the Passenger Terminal Building for some last minute shopping or, if your letter corresponds to the next departure, go straight to the allocation lanes. The process is exactly the same for your return journey. It really couldn't be easier!
CARS:
Cars that are under 1.85 metres (including any roof luggage) go onto a double deck carriage. Marshals will tell you where to board the train. Sport cars or low vehicles - Drive straight on and off our shuttles without worrying about ramps or bumps.
Cars higher than 1.85 metres are allocated space in the single deck carriage. The carriages are twice as high as the double deck carriages so there is ample room. There is no extra charge so feel free to bring bicycles, roof boxes etc. Just inform us when booking Important We regret that LPG (or equivalent flammable gas) vehicles cannot be transported by Eurotunnel even if it is being used as a secondary fuel source. However other dual powered vehicles can be accepted e.g. petrol/electric.
